I got tricked by Quibids...
Yesterday as I was "stumbleupon-ing" I came across an article about Quibids. I thought, wow how cool, I am so going to try this! Well, that's where it all began. For those of you who have never heard about Quibids, it is an online auction site where each bid raises the price only by 1 cent. They have macbooks, ipads, and so many more great electronics that sell for anywhere from $3.00-$150.00. But here is the catch, you pay 60 cents for each bid you place. I started off paying $60 for 100 bids. I thought I had it all planned out to where I could bid on a 500 bid voucher for under $10 and be set on bidding for the ipad that I was determined to get. Well, I never ended up winning any of those bids except one for 2 cents for a 20 bid voucher + $15 wal-mart gift card (I mean really, I paid $60 to win that?!?!) So by this point, I am beyond frustrated...I decide to purchase just 45 more bids for $27. I have now invested $87 in bidding, needless to say...I only left with the $15 Wal-mart gift card and wasted about 8 hours of my life. Thanks Quibids.
Above is my screen, as you can see I have 0 bids left. But doesn't it look so appealing that I could win these things for so cheap? I definitely bought into it. sigh. Last night a brand new macbook sold for $112. Multiply that by 60 cents and their profit on that alone was $6,720 (minus the cost they pay for the computer-which they obviously get at cost!) WHAT A SCAM!

ReplyDeletetotally! thats waht happens when they mess with currency. i mean, one cent for them is really 60? i wanted to try it a few months back but quickly realized how its really like the slot machines at a casino. lame!
ReplyDeleteI probably would have fallen for that too, if I hadn't known about it. It really does look appealing and that's really deceiving. Thanks for sharing this and I'm sorry that you had to go through this. :(

What a crazy scam
ReplyDeleteMy sorority sister D'Arcy is their spokes girl! I'll complain and tell her that she's promoting a scam website!
ReplyDeleteThe major problem is that Quibids is SO big that the competition is just insane. People clean up on smaller auction sites, but you need to have deep pockets to compete for an Ipad.. on Quibids.
